Karisa received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology as well as her Master of Counseling from Arizona State University.  She started her career working at with a non-profit organization in Mesa, Arizona with the Seriously Mentally Ill (SMI) population where she quickly discovered her passion for working with individuals in crisis as well as in a traditional therapy setting.  She worked as a crisis counselor in emergency departments, hospitals, jails and communities providing support and liaison services to those in immediate need.

While working in many different aspects of the mental health field, she continued to focus her education on trauma and its effects on the brain and body.  She has worked with some of the nation’s top addiction and recovery experts and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Pia Mellody’s PIT Model for codependency, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.  She also has a certificate in traumatic stress studies and specializes in the areas of love addiction, attachment, substance use, sexual issues and family of origin issues.  She continues to gain knowledge in traumatic stress studies and is working on her yoga teacher training.  She also enjoys hiking and spending time with her dog Samson.
