Recently we had a man complete his residential treatment at Soberman’s Estate and while attending his first weekly alumni meeting, he asked his new brothers – “What do I do to stay sober?” his new Alumni brothers quickly shared how they enjoy a sober life by participating in sober activities such as:

Traveling, Watching Sports, Playing Golf, Playing and or Listening to Music, Quiet / Meditation Time, Hiking, Bicycle Riding, Boating, Surfing, Hobbies, Family Time, Work, Fishing, Pickleball, Working Out / Gym, Smiling and Making Eye Contact with Others.

Message from Founder and CEO of Soberman's Estate, Mitch Prager

During treatment at Soberman’s Estate we discuss relapse prevention as part of a design to truly enjoy life free of alcohol and other addictions. We often share the analogy of Insulin – a diabetic can enjoy a full long healthy life as long as he takes his daily insulin. Similarly the alcoholic can enjoy a long healthy life if he takes his daily insulin. Our insulin changes over the years although we quickly learn that our insulin is enjoyable. While in treatment at Soberman’s Estate we learn our initial course of insulin may include walking in nature, talking with others, being with animals, journaling, meditating or working out. We learn that knowing what our new habits or our “insulin” is becomes part of our relapse prevention, aftercare and continuum of care plan which details our daily habits, or insulin if you will.

This newsletter it one of our many tools designed to achieve our goal of teaching men to enjoy their lives without alcohol or other addictions. May you learn to pause, rise above the noise and find serenity and joy throughout your sober journey.
