Honoring the Nurses Who Help Healing Happen at Soberman’s Estate

Posted by Janice Story on May 11, 2026 at 7:30 AM

During National Nurses Week, Soberman’s Estate is proud to honor the nurses who bring their skill, steadiness, compassion, and care to the men we serve. Their presence is an essential part of the recovery environment we work so intentionally to create.

And because Soberman’s Estate offers 24/7 nursing, their presence is available day and night.(672 x 480 px) (90)

At Soberman’s Estate, healing doesn’t only happen in therapy sessions. It happens in the quiet moments when a client has newly arrived and is unsure of what comes next, and there is a nurse there to help him feel safe and supported. It happens when someone is not sleeping well, when his body is adjusting, when emotions feel overwhelming, and one of our nurses’ steps in to help him become more comfortable. When someone helps them, they feel cared for.

The Importance of Nursing in Residential Treatment

When a man enters residential treatment for alcohol or substance use, he’s usually carrying a lot more than what we see as the visible effects of addiction. He may be exhausted, anxious, physically uncomfortable, emotionally guarded, and uncertain or feeling guilty about the choices he has made. Our nurses help create the safety they need, especially in the beginning of their healing journey.

Our nurses support clients through observation, assessment, education, medication support, communication with the treatment team, and the kind of calm presence that can make an overwhelming moment feel a bit more manageable.

They are there when symptoms need to be monitored.
They are there when questions need to be answered.
They are there when reassurance is needed, and a client needs to know that he is not alone.

In recovery, those moments become part of the foundation of their treatment.

24/7 Nursing: Care When It Matters Most

Addiction recovery doesn’t follow a 9-to-5 schedule.

Discomfort can show up in the middle of the night. Anxiety can rise before sunrise. Sleep struggles, medication questions, physical concerns, and emotional vulnerability can happen at any hour.

Having nursing available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allows Soberman’s Estate to provide a higher level of support, responsiveness, and peace of mind for clients and their families.

It means clients have access to trained nursing care when they need it.
It means concerns can be addressed promptly.
It means the treatment team has another layer of support in helping each man stabilize and move forward.
It means care is not limited to business hours.

For men entering treatment, this can be deeply reassuring. For families, it can offer comfort knowing their loved one is in an environment where attentive care is available around the clock.

The Quiet Strength of a Nurse

There is a certain kind of strength nurses bring into a treatment setting. It often shows up in the simple, consistent acts of care that help people feel seen and safe.

A nurse may be the first person to recognize that a client is struggling physically.
A nurse may help him understand what his body is experiencing.
A nurse may remind him that it is ok to ask for help.
A nurse may offer kindness in a moment when he feels ashamed, discouraged, or afraid.

For many men, allowing themselves to receive care can be uncomfortable. They might be used to pushing through discomfort, minimizing pain, or believing they should be able to handle everything on their own.

Our nurses help challenge that belief with professionalism, compassion, and dignity. They remind clients that healing includes learning how to receive support.

Part of the Whole-Person Approach at Soberman’s Estate

Soberman’s Estate believes recovery must support the whole person — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Our 24/7 nursing care is one part of that comprehensive approach.

Alongside clinical therapy, medical support, holistic services, experiential work, nutrition, movement, mindfulness, and community, nursing care helps create the structure and safety needed for men to do the deeper work of recovery.

Our Nurses are not separate from the healing process. They are woven into it. They help hold the environment steady so clients can begin to trust the process, engage in treatment, and take the next right step toward a healthier life.

With Deep Appreciation for Our Nurses

'At Soberman's Estate, our nurses are often the steady presence that helps clients feel safe enough to begin healing. Their compassion, professionalism, and around-the-clock support are an essential part of the recovery journey, and we are deeply grateful for the care they provide every single day"                 -Lorraine Sanzari, Charge Nurse/Operations Manager
