A common trend that occurs when there is a case of addiction is the presence of another disorder. The presence of another disorder when there is already a pre-existing case is called comorbidity. There are many questions surrounding these conditions, which is why we will be taking an in-depth look at how both substance use disorder and comorbidity interact by answering these questions.

Soberman’s Estate is responding innovatively to COVID-19.

With the elimination of in-person 12-step and group support meetings, Soberman’s Estate created an online directory of virtual meetings.

Substance use disorder is a crippling disorder that can affect anyone regardless of their age, gender, or status in life. However, it tends to be more common in people who have the means to afford these substances. Having access to substances and being able to have the means to use them at will is why professionals many times are higher risk for substance use problems. These professionals include pilots, artists, entrepreneurs, and doctors with high paying salaries. The best way to start treatment for these individuals is to help them identify that they have a problem.

Stress is a normal factor in every person’s life. However, chronic stress is a major concern for many Americans today. One third of the American population experiences extreme stress that can affect their physical and mental well being. The vast majority of these people experiencing stress reach out to drugs, alcohol or both to relieve it. But what exactly is the correlation between stress and substance use and what can you do about it?

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood used his time on the Brendan O'Connor Show on RTÉ Radio One on Saturday to encourage people to look after their sobriety during the Covid-19 emergency.

At Soberman’s Estate, we provide outreach and information to our Alumni on a regular basis and feel it is pertinent to everyone in our recovery community to be privy to the information below. Although our program is not based on Self-help programs, we support our Alumni in finding any resources which are helpful to recovery.

In-person meetings are the lifeline of Self Help programs across the country and across the world. The ability to meet with other addicts and alcoholics has a grounding effect on everyone’s who attends. With the onset of COVID-19 many meetings are being temporarily cancelled and access to the many locations have ceased because of the instruction to increase social distancing.

According to the March 13th edition of the USA Today, 41 people in total have died in the US from the Coronavirus. According to the National Center of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism 241 people die every day in the US from alcoholism.

Following through on a decision to enter residential treatment for alcoholism (or other addictions or behavioral health issues such as anxiety, depression, or stress) does not have to be impacted by the coronavirus.

Recently, the organization, 10,000 Beds toured Soberman’s Estate, and we resonated with their mission and agreed to partner with them. The idea for 10,000 Beds was conceived in the fall of 2014.  10,000 Beds unique model of partnering with treatment programs directly for the donation of scholarship beds is recognized as innovative and effective throughout the behavioral health industry.  10,000 Beds partners with addiction treatment programs which provide at least one scholarship (bed) per year.  10,000 Beds is then able to offer these 100% donated scholarships to qualifying 10,000 Beds scholarship applicants who want and need help but are without resources.
